Question From: j. Morgan - Cape Coral, Florida, United States
Q: My myrtle trees were in the ground when I bought my home three yrs ago. Home was built in 07. They are the same as they were when we moved in. Not much folage bloom very little . Trunks are a gray to black color. I think they may be root bound, but this is. Ft mers Fld. Sandy soil? I have used miracle grow on them and saw little improvement. What should I do.

A: The black trunks are probably caused from sooty mold. It grows on the honey dew given off by aphids. They have been suffering for some time so I recommend you have an onsite inspection from a certified arborist. To find one in your area go to www.TCIA.com
