Endless Summer Hydrangeas Damaged After Winter

Question From: MICHIGAN
Q: Dear friends, I have 2 "Endless Summer" hydrangeas that look pretty sorry. At the very base ......groundlevel.....there is some green showing but nothing on the stems. Do you think I should prune them down to the green that is evident or just simply discard the entire plant and start with new ones? Any advice is greatly appreciated . Sincerely, Marieanne Kurth

A:

You can prune them back to live growth. The winter kill is not unusual here in Michigan. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
