How Much Can Japanese Barberry Be Cut Back

Question From: Gary, Indiana, United States
Q: My Japanese barberry bushes are getting too big for the front of my home. They are about 5-6 ft tall and about 4 ft round. How far back can I cut them. They looked best at 3-4 ft.

A: You can cut them back that that height in late winter to early spring. Be sure to water them well before hand and sharpen your loppers and pruners. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
