How To Treat Gnats In Poinsettias

Question From: D. Dunn - Southgate, Michigan, United States
Q: I have gnats from the poinsettias I purchased this season. Do you have a remedy for this? I really don't want to get rid of them (I have 6) but the gnats are doing me in. I enjoy being educated by you via your weekly articles. Thank you. Donna Dunn

A: There are a couple of things you can do. First you are watering too much. Let the soil dry on the surface before watering. Two, you can remove and replace the top inch Bonide Systemic Houseplant Granules can be mixed in that top inch of soil for 8 week control. But getting a better handle on the watering, replacing the soil and mulching with sand should do the trick. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
