Pear Tree Bark Is Splitting

Question From: r. smith - NORTH CAROLINA
Q: The bark is splitting (delaminating) from one of my 2 Cleveland pear trees, and only one. What causes this, and what is my recourse?

A:

Splits in bark are usually caused by sun scald in the winter. Wrapping the trunk will protect it in winter. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
