Petunias In Flower Boxes Have Stems Cut At The Base In Morning

Q: My petunias in my flower boxes sometimes have stems off at the base in the morning. When I take the boxes inside for a night, this doesn't happen. Is it an insect? I don't see anything. A bird? What do I do?
