Pine Tree Choked By Grape Vine Is Brown At Bottom

Question From: M. Fariello - Johnstown, New York, United States
Q: My pine tree was being choked by a gigantic grape vine. The grape vine has been removed and the top of the tree is green but the bottom is brown with dead branches. I am hoping to save it since the birds love it but I will take your advice on whatever you think. Thanks for your help!

A: The tree will find a new leader and grow from the top, although it may look unusual. The brown branches at the bottom are toast. When trees show signs of problems, be it bugs, disease or an invasive plant dealing with them early on is the best bet. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
