Where Do Borers Lay Eggs On Squash Plants

Question From: Raeford, North Carolina, United States
Q: How close to or how far out from the base of the Squash plant does a Borer lay eggs. How far up from the base do they lay eggs. I have read that when using aluminum sleeves the Borer will just lay eggs where the sleeves stop.

A: Generally speaking borers lay eggs at the base of leaf stems or on the undersides of leaves. Check this line to the University of Kentucky for a colored photo. They are pretty easy to spot. https://entomology.ca.uky.edu/ef314 Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
