Caring For Dawn Redwood

Summer
Regular watering is essential, as a moist open position is conductive to a healthy growth pattern. This normally means watering once a week, (when it hasn't rained). Although for the first few months after planting, even more frequent watering may be necessary. As a guide, water about one inch of water every week.

Winter
Seldom requires pruning due to neat, uniform, conical habit.

Important Note - The lower branches must be left in place in order for the buttressing to develop. Buttressed trunks are flared and deeply grooved, and the branches appear to be growing fro right inside the grooves.
