Choosing Azaleas

Some of the better evergreen azalea plants for home landscaping use are:
Gable Hybrids: the hardiest evergreen types, with white, pink, red or purple flowers.

Kurume Hybrids: ‘Coral Bells', Hershey's Red', ‘Snow' and ‘Sherwood Red' are favorite. Another popular azalea is the white ‘Delaware Valley'.

Robin Hill Azaleas: exceptionally hardy, handling temperatures as low as -30° and over 100°F without injury. Flowers are larger than most evergreen azaleas and they bloom in the late spring or early summer. Zones 5-8.

Northern Lights Azaleas: are cold hardy for northern yards. ‘Iridescent’, ‘Weston’s Innocence’, ‘Jane Abbott’, ‘Lemon Drop’ and ‘Popsicle’.

Indica: hybrids have large leaves and flowers. Often called florist azaleas, they are typically sold as blooming indoor plants. Outdoors they are best for southern coastal regions since they are not hardy below 20°F
