Spectacular shrub with fragrant, dense clusters of cone-shaped reddish- purple blooms. Butterflies love them! Use as colorful landscape accents or to provide screening in warm season. Smaller foliage than B. davidii types. Deciduous. Full to partial sun. Compact to 5 feet tall and wide. Cutting grown. Spikes of reddish-tinged, tubular-shaped purple flowers bloom midsummer through fall.
Display ideas
The compact form of this shrub means it will fit in almost any sunny garden. Combine with yellows and other purples. Be sure to cut back the finished flowers for continuous summer bloom.
Companion Plant Ideas
This Butterfly Bush`s purple blooms look even prettier combined with the golden shades of Goldsturm Black Eyed Susan (Rudbeckia fulgida var. sullivantii `Goldsturm`) or the lighter yellow hues of Moonbeam Threadleaf Coreopsis(Coreopsis verticillata `Moonbeam`). The dark lavender flowers of Goodwin Creek Gray Lavender (Lavandula dentata `Goodwin Creek Gray`) combine well with the group.
