Planting Fir

Firs grow best in full sun, but tolerate light shade. They accommodate most soil, coarse and gravelly to sandy as long as it drains well and is on the acid side (pH 4.0 to 6.5). They do not like clay, which holds water too long near their roots. Young Firs should be planted in the early spring. Because of their shallow, spreading roots they transplant easily.
