These trees have few disease or insect problems, Sometimes a tree in stress will get a case of Scale (Controlling Scale)or Spider Mites (Controlling Mites), but they usually are not a critical problem. Fungal leaf spot or powdery mildew can also appear on stressed trees (see file on Controlling Fungal Disease). Again these problems are not usually serious. Unfortunately deer like these plants and they grow low enough for the deer to do some real damage. If you live in an area with a deer population nearby, you will want to take some precautions.
