The armadillo is not difficult to fence out. If you are trying to protect a vegetable garden or flower bed, a chicken wire fence 12 to 18 inches high and buried 4 to 6 inches deep will keep the critter at bay. Some yardeners in serious armadillo country have had success in covering the surface of flowerbeds with chicken wire held down by hooks made from coat hangers. Holes are cut out to plant perennials and bulbs and annuals come up through the wire. The wire prevents the armadillo from digging.
