Arborvitae Are Turning Bare From Bottom up

Question From: A. Albert - Round Lake, Illinois, United States
Q: I have a 6ft fenced in yard and my beautiful 9ft. arborvitae started getting bare 2 years ago and worse last year from the bottom up. They get plenty of sunlight. I have two clusters of arborvitae in two different locations in my backyard. Two years ago one cluster of them started getting bare from bottom up, got worse last year. Last year the other cluster started getting bare from the bottom up. Worried they will die and we love them and their coverage/screening they provide. Help!

t's a shame you waited two years to address the problem. It may have been lack of water weakened the trees and then disease took over. If they were my trees I would get an onsite inspection from a professional, a certified arborist. To find one in your area go to www.tcia.org and enter your zip code. Good luck and thanks for visiting Yardener.com
