Arborvitae Trees Have Brown Leaves On Lower Two Thirds

Question From: Garrison, New York, United States
Q: Nancy, my three arbovitae trees over the winter have developed brown leaves 2/3 up the entire tree. Now I am noticing that the tips of the top portion to have some browning as well at the tips. What to do.

A: GIve it some time, but keep it watered. It may drop those needles and produce new ones. If you see no new growth after a couple of months you will have to prune off the dead branches. It that leaves an ugly mess you will need to replace it. But for now be patient. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
