Are Coffee Grounds Beneficial To Flowers And Should Leaves Of Amaryllis Be Cut Down After Blooms Die

Question From: Dearborn Heights, Michigan, United States
Q: Are used coffee grounds grounds worked into flower beds beneficial? I have cut the stalks and dead flowers down to one inch above the amaryllis bulbs Should I also cut the beautiful leaves down, too?..

Yes they are beneficial, but they are best scattered on the surface of the soil and covered with mulch. If you wish to keep the bulb from year to year continue to water and feed the bulb and fertilize it every few weeks. The leaves are necessary to produce food for the bulb.
