Question From: J. Kamitian - New Hampshire, United States
Q: balloon flower plant won't flower - have a tall balloon flower plant that flowered for several years and in the last 2-3 years it grows healthy but the top tips shrivel and turn black and it doesn't flower - small balloon flower plant next to it blooms every year

A: Jerry, It sounds like your balloon flower has developed a fungal disease. You can treat it with a fungicide, but the disease may spread to the healthy plants. I would remove it. Balloon flowers do not tolerate wet feet or drought, so do what you can to keep the soil moderately moist and use compost as a fertilizer. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
