Balloon Flowers Start To Open Then Shrivel Up

Question From: V. Nagle - West Chester, Pennsylvania, United States
Q: Balloon flower had from last year came up with many balloons and started to open up, then all of a sudden the balloons started to shrivel up. I cut them back and the first part still has flowers but no more seem to be coming. This an older plant. I have three new ones planted this year and they seem OK.

It could be the result of crazy weather patterns we have experiences this spring. Keep an eye out for crown rot. A bit of fish and kelp fertilizer, such as Neptune's Harvest might help. I'd use it at half strength once. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
