Begonia Growing And Sending Out Shoots But Not Flowering

Question From: Raleigh, North Carolina, United States
Q: my fibrous begonia that is 6 feet in width has shoots coming from pot one inch in diameter and some four feet in length. no flowers yet, leaves at the tip. should we cut these back or leave them?

Sounds to me like you have been fertilizing the bejeez out of it. Begonias begin flowering almost right from the getgo, but too much fertlizer encourages growth - you sure have that, rather than flowers. So-----I'd irrigate the soil well, that is water it several times and let the water drain. Then cut it back and water with clear water as usual. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
