Question From: K. Balbiani - IOWA
Q: Is a sweet gum tree a good tree to plant in Iowa. What about the seed pods? Are there sweet gum trees that do not have the pods? Thanks
A: Be sure you plant a variety that is sterile. They are available. They get very large and are used as a street tree. They can grow in IOWA but you must get a northern variety. I'd contact a state arboretum or botanical garden for more specifics and advice. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
