Best Time To Prune Sycamore Tree And Treat For Anthracnose

Question From: OREGON
Q: best time for general pruning of Sycamore tree? Also, struggling with anthracnose and a beetle that is making lacework of the leaves. Best time to treat for anthracnose? Spring or Fall?

A: Best time to prune is in November or December when the tree has lost it's leaves and is going dormant or you can wait until June. Spring pruning results in heavy sap run. Hard on the tree and attracts bugs.

Treat for anthracnose just as the tree is budding out. Follow the container directions and reapply when recommended. If this is a large tree i suggest you have a professional inject a systemic. To find a certified arborist go to www.tcia.org and enter your zip code. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
