Bing Cherry Tree Has Fewer Cherries And Apple Tree Has Twigs With Brown Leaves

Question From: Urbanna, Virginia, United States
Q: Our Bing cherry tree doesn't have nearly the amount of cherries this year and there are quite a few bare branches. Is there anything I can do to help it? I also have an Empire apple tree that has quite a few twig endings that have brown leaves. The rest of the tree is still green and getting some apples.

Changes are these trees suffered winter kill and early frost damage last winter. Just be sure that they are well watered over the summer. I'm sure that is not an issue right now. In fall, after the leaves have dropped fertilize them with Espoma Fruit Tree fertilizer at the recommended rate. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
