Black Fungus On Coreopsis Stems

Question From: g. wyscarver - OHIO
Q: Part of the Coreopsis stems have a black fungus(?) . what's causing and how do I get rid of it.

A:

Your plant have a fungal disease, cut away dead plant material and dispose of it in the trash. Clean pruners with alcohol when finished. You have two choices, dig and dispose of the plant now or treat with a fungicide, such as Bonide Captan or Copper Dust. If the plant continues to decline. Dig it out. Coreopsis are relatively inexpensive, so I'd get rid of it. Best nancy
