Branches From Tops Of Tall Arborvitae Are On The Ground

Question From: MINNESOTA
Q: What is Arborvitae are very tall and you come out one morning and the ground is covered with branches from the tops of the trees? They are now all bare for several feet at top. Thanks.

Deer would be my first guess but they just eat the needles and start at the bottom of the trees. Squirrels are known to tear off the tips of evergreens, but not entire branches. Take photos to a good independent garden center or nursery for a diagnosis. A certified arborist should also be helpful. To find one in your area go to www.tcia.org and enter your zip code. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
