Question From: MASSACHUSETTS
Q: We believe we have Bulgaria inquinans on a branch of a forsythia in our yard. Besides being gross, is this potentially harmful and should we prune this branch? (see pic)

A: I have never seen anything like it . I googled the name and discovered it is an unedible, possibly poisonous fungus. I would remove that branch, cutting it back to ground level. Then bag it up and dispose of it in the trash or burn it. If others appear I'd remove the shrub. I'd also consider contacting your county extension officer for more information.
