Butterfly Bush Looks Completely Dead After Tough Winter

Question From: J. McGraw - Charter Township of Clinton, Michigan, United States
Q: It was a tough winter in SE Michigan, and I have been patient. My thriving Butterfly Bush of last summer now looks completely dead. How long do I wait before I start pruning, or removal of it?

Well, two of the three I thought were dead as doornails sprouted out at the base this week. If you want to play the waiting game a little longer cut them back to about 4 inches above the ground and give then another week or two. If not, off with their heads. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
