Can A Residential Yard Have Too Much Leaf Mulch

Question From: B. Chiaravalli - West Bloomfield Township, Michigan, United States
Q: Can a residential yard have too much leaf mulch? I have 120 trees on a lot that is 150' by 140'. I have a mulching mower with a sharp blade and tiny mulched leafs, but how much is too much?

In the lawn, the tips of the grass should be showing, The grass should be left at 3 1/2 to 4 inches for the winter. For winter protection of shrub and trees 6 inches is considered good. The same with garden beds. Use leftovers to build a compost pile and make leaf mold. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
