Can Bug Spoiled Apples Be Put Into Compost

Question From: s. nelson - Vermont, United States
Q: What are the small black bugs in my apple tree? They are about 1/4 inch long and just "straight" to the naked eye? They spoil the apple!! AND should these spoiled apples be put into the compost? thanks SO much for your reply!

The apples are okay to put in the compost. I'd take a sample of the bug to your local apple orchard and have them indentified. Too late to do anything this year, but you may want to treat for them when the time is right. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
