Can Chinese Hollies Be Shortened Without Killing Them

Question From: J. Fincher - Landenberg, Pennsylvania, United States
Q: I have several Chinese hollies around my deck. They are too tall to use my hedge clippers on. Can I cut them down to about 4 feet tall without damage?

You can cut the hollies back without killing them. The best time to do this is in the winter when they are dormant. Fertilize them with Espoma Holly Tone according to package directions and keep them watered if it does not rain. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
