Can I Plant Watermelon Under My Arborvitae Trees

Question From: P. DePietro - Macungie, Pennsylvania, United States
Q: Hello? Can I plant watermelon under my arborvatae trees? Currently just beds of organic soil and organic mulch on top. No fertilizers or treated mulch. I have a 200 foot run of about 65 of them. I plan on direct-sowing hierloom seeds, and some smaller hybrids. I am in zone 6b. Thank you!

A: Phil. watermelons need moist soil and lots of sun to produce fruit. Neither will be available under your arbs. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
