Can Magnolia Tree Leaves Be Used As Ground Covering To Prevent Weeds

Question From: B. Seigel - Hamden, Connecticut, United States
Q: Hi Nancy- Can I use the leaves from my magnolia tree as ground covering in my flower beds to prevent weeds. I don't know what kind of tree I have, but I've inherited it when I bought my house 20 years ago and it is doing just fine. But so many leaves, would be great to take advantage of using them in my gardens. Thanks

There is not problem using magnolias. It would be best if you could shred them, either with a lawn mover, a shredder vac or a leaf shredder. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
