Can Ornamental Pear Tree Be Fertilized In January

Question From: S. Kline - CALIFORNIA
Q: Can I fertilize ornamental pear tree in the winter? Tree is wonderful, 50 y/o, managed fire blight. I do like to fertilize as it helps manage the disease but I’m unsure if I can in January. Can you advise me?

I can't answer that question as I live in Michigan. To confuse the issue more, weather varies from Northern California and the South. I recommend you get advice from a local independent garden center or nursery that sells these trees. Given the erratic weather your state has endured, I advise you use an organic fertilizer. Your county horticulture extension officer should also be able to advise you. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
