Can Uprooted Asters Be Saved

Question From: J. Wojahn - Tualatin, Oregon, United States
Q: My boyfriend thought he was pulling weeds and he pulled up all my asters! I'm soaking the roots (still attached to the foliage) in water. It is July and 96 degrees in Oregon. Can they be saved?

I'd pot them up in a container and place them in an area that gets morning sun. Do not fertilize them. Keep the soil moist. Cut the plants to half their height. If the foliage remains green and you see new growth, they survived and you can replant them. Give it a try. You have nothing to loose. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
