Chrysanthemums Have Turned Brown

Question From: New Bern, North Carolina, United States
Q: I live in the Eastern area of NC. My mums were beautiful when I bought them & have them displayed on the front steps along with pumpkins for a nice Fall look. Several of the mum flowers have turned brown & I'd like to know if there is something I can do about that. Thank you in advance for your expertise.

Rebecca, assuming you watered them regularly, the flowers have lived their out their lifespan and died. Cut away the dead ones. To extend the life of potted mums, buy them when they are in bud. Place them in a cool shaded area. Water so as to keep the soil moist but not soggy. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
