Clematis That Bloomed Solid Color Now Has Blooms With White Tips

Q: Would appreciate your help in understanding why Clematis that bloomed a solid color has had the tips of the blossoms turn white. The plant is 12 years old and blooms prolifically in solid color--then, all of a sudden this year, the tips of many of the blossoms turned white. Canon City, Colorado

My guess is this plant is hybrid and it reverting back to the coloration of its parentage. There is no way to stop the process, but look at it this way.. you now have a unique plant like no other. I think the flowers are beautiful. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
