Cosmos Flowers Are Very Small

Question From: J. Funicelli - MISSOURI
Q: Wondering why my tall Cosmos have itty bitty flowers? They have plenty of sun. The stems and leaves are robust and healthy.I don't use fertilizer as they have always grown well in my yard.

A: If you're saving seed from year to year, your seed may begetting old. If you bought fresh seed I would contact the company.. Refreshing the soil with a thin layer of compost and feeding the plants with a low nitrogen fertilizer such as tomato fertilizer may also help. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.

Q: Thank you! They are reseeding from the previous year. Should I pluck all the new growth next year when they start growing and apply new seed?

A: I would do that and start fresh. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
