Q: hi I have a crape myrtle tree, however all of the branches have not leafed out, and I'm concerned why not? I live in bklyn New York zone 7. I dead headed and took off a lot of small branches in early late feb early March, I'm hoping this didn't cause it. What can I do about this. I don't believe the tree is dead it passed the scratch test on most of the branches.
A: Severe cold that came upon quickly may have damaged the leaf buds. Sadly there is nothing to be done but wait and see. Fertlizing may do more harm than good. Make sure it is well watered and pray Mother Nature looks kindly on your Crepe Myrtle. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
