Crepe Myrtle Tree Leaves Turned Black And Shriveled Up After Freezing Temperatures

Question From: Vanceboro, North Carolina, United States
Q: My young crape myrtles (planted last year) just started getting leaves when we had an overnight freeze (27 degrees), the next day all the leaves on all 15 trees had turned black and shriveled up. Will it grow more leaves or is it dead?

Most trees and shrubs have a second set of buds that will emerge, so keep your crapes well watered and be patient. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
