Cut Down Pine Tree Has Lots Of Piles Of Sawdust On And Around It And There Is Noise Of a Bug

Question From: D. Seiler - Reedsburg, Wisconsin, United States
Q: we cut down a large pine tree as it was becoming unsafe. just recently we noticed small piles of fine sawdust all over the branches piled on ground ad in wood pile. along with this is a noise of a bug or something. this is not a small amount, and it is all over the wood in pile and seven branches laying on ground next to tree. is this something that can infest other trees in yard. or what

I can't tell you that. I would call in a professional. A certified arborist should be able to tell you. My guess would be carpenter ants, but you should be seeing some. They are huge black ants. To find a professional near you go to www.tcia.org or call 800-733 2622. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
