Daffodil Bulbs Coming Up Out Of The Ground

Question From: Centerville, Iowa, United States
Q: My daffodil bulbs are heaving up out of the ground what is the cause

Penny, Heaving is caused by planting too shallow and wet soil freezing too fast. I would carefully dig and replant them 8 inches deep. Mulching the soil with several inches of shredded leaves will insulate the soil against the freeze thaw that causes heaving. Do not fertilize them. Best and Happy Yardening, Nancy.
