Do Butterfly Larvae Eat Butterfly Bush Leaves

Question From: S. Smith - VIRGINIA
Q: Can butterfly larvae eat the leaves on a butterfly bush? I've heard that they cannot, and therefore a butterfly bush is not really beneficial to growing the pollinator population in our HOA Common Area.

A: The Butterfly bush is not valuable as a host plant for butterflies, but it does provide nectar for butterflies and other beneficials. Best Nancy
