Q: I had heard that the hollyhock plant can produce opium; is this true? My aunt used to raise them and they were so beautiful;
A: Somebody has their plants mixed. Opium comes from the Opium poppy, a perennial that will grow here in Michigan and is available at some independent garden centers. Hollyhocks are off the hook. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
