Do Pickled Beets Need To Be Boiled

Question From: Chicago, Illinois, United States
Q: I recently purchased pickled beets in a jar for the first time. I remember hearing you have to heat up jarred beets to kill bacteria before eating. Is this true? If I do have to heat them up, tell me for how long. Thank you.

A: There is no need to boil pickled beets. The vinegar brine will kill any bacteria. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
