Question From: m. hollenshead - Needmore, Pennsylvania, United States
Q: My douglas fir are dropping an abnormal amount of needles. Looked good 3 wks ago and mine is not the only plantation like this. My feeling is too dry in aug thru october while extremely wet thru june july. Would appreciate any input
A: Established conifers usually don't react that quickly to hot dry weather. I recommend you get an onsite inspection from a certified arborist. Thinning of needles is often caused by needle cast disease, a fungus that will weaken and kill the tree. To find a progressional in your area go to www.tcia.org and enter your zip code.
