Dwarf Weigela Leaves Have Brown Edges And Tiny Holes

Question From: NEW YORK
Q: I had three Dwarf Weigela My Monet planted about five weeks ago and some of the leaves are brown "dead" at the edges with a few tiny holes on the leaves. Are the brown edges caused by lack of water? I applied some SEVIN on the plants thinking the holes are cause by insects. Am I doing the right thing.

A: When shrubs are planted in summer, watering is critical. I water the root balls daily the first two weeks and then twice a week. The holes in the leave are from insects, but I don't have a crystal ball so I can't tell you how to control them. Take samples of the damaged leaves to and independent garden center in hopes of a positive ID and control. Bst Nancy and Happy Yardening
