English Ive Has Large Brown Patches That Seem To Be Spreading

Question From: e. nava - Monterey Park, California, United States
Q: My English Ivy covers a fairly large south facing slope in Los Angeles, but suffers large brown burn patches this summer. I water regularly in evenings but it seems to be spreading. Should I clear out the dead leaves and fertilize ? Maybe wait until fall when the conditions are cooler ?

Sounds like a disease called leaf spot. Not a good idea to fertilize sick plants. It stresses them even more. Watering in the evening is not a good idea either. Early in the morning is the best time. Take a sample of some of the leaves to your local garden center for a more accurate Id and recommended controls and timing. I live in Michigan and CA is like another country. Best Nancy
