English Laurel Leaf Tips Are Brown

Question From: Provo, Utah, United States
Q: The tips of some of our English laurel are brown. They are partially under a spruce tree. Is the tree casing the problem?

A: I am not familiar with the term tree casing. Tips of leaves usually turn brown from lack of moisture. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy

Comment: Thank you for your response. I misspelled "causing." The question should have been " is the spruce tree causing the problem?" The plants are receiving sufficient water; that was the first thing I checked, Denny

Response: I stick by my guns on the lack of water. The ELs cannot compete with the spruce for moisture and nutrients. Take photos of the planting along with samples of the brown tipped leaves to a garden center that sells these shrubs or better yet get an onsite inspection from a certified arborist.
