European Birch Has Crack On Trunk

Question From: J. Clark - ILLINOIS
Q: We have a European larch growing in drummer sandy loam, full sun, gentle slope. It had been "perfect" until this season. Took photos of it. An approx 3/8" wide Crack on trunk about 8' long, but not the last 5' of the leader, which is bare. Checked for usual entomology issues but found none and roots and basal flare which iBooks fine. The Crack is oozing sap. See no canker evidence though.Have photos. Thank you, Bill

A: I am not a certified arborist, so if it were my tree I would have a professional look at it. To find one in your area go to TCIA.org and enter your zip code in the find one box. Good Luck, Nancy
