Find Replacement For Douglas Fir Trees That Have Lost Needles

Question From: E. Porter - PENNSYLVANIA
Q: I have seven douglas fir trees and two of them have lost needles to the point where you can see through them. Is there anything I can do to remedy this ? I was thinking about replanting a different species in the Spring.(2013)

Eric, I live in Michigan so I contacted a tree pro from your area and here is his comment on your issues. Friends of mine in the business are telling me not to recommend douglas-fir any more. For years we know the cooley aphid gall goes back and forth between that and colorado spruce. I think the warming temperatures in are area also have a factor. I suggest you talk to a local arborist about replacements. Best Nancy
